AN AMERICAN- INDONESIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE
Global Balajar
Global Balajar is a virtual American-Indonesian exchange program dedicated to strengthening the connection between the two countries through education and dialogue. American Volunteers teach English language lessons and learn Bahasa Indonesia. Indonesian participants can take FREE English language classes. After the English lesson, there will always be an opportunity to share and learn about the cultures of Indonesia and the United States in cultural discussions. Here you can practice your language skills in engaging in-depth discussions!
WHAT PROGRAMS DO WE OFFER?
4-Week Programs
Participants in our 4 week program are carefully selected through an application process and tend to have a higher English level, but more importantly, a strong desire to learn English and willingness to participate in deeper, more meaningful, discussions. They follow a similar format to the community program, but we have the same dedicated group for 4 weeks.
School Programs
School programs are designed to provide an English-learning and cultural experience to schools and students who would not otherwise have access to the opportunity. The structure and demographics of these programs greatly vary depending on the needs of the school. Reach out if you know a school that would be interested!
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?
First Half (English Language Session):
Second Half (Cultural Discussion):

A qualified American Volunteer will give a presentation about an English Language Topic for 15-20 minutes (The topic of the presentation will be advertised at least a week beforehand)

The presentation will be interactive, it is important to participate in the chat!

After the presentation there will be 5-10 minutes for any questions about the English Topic

The last 30 minutes of the session will consist of small breakout rooms with Indonesian and American participants

Participants and American volunteers alike have the opportunity to share their cultures with one another
-
Each discussion will have a cultural discussion topic (The topic of the presentation will be advertised at least a week beforehand) such as the environment, stereotypes, or women's rights

Be proficient in using virtual technologies such as zoom and google slides

Be fluent in the English Langage

You must participate in at least 8 sessions in a calendar year-- the more the better!
